Introduction

This is a competency elective unit, which looks at the process of performing electrical measurements.

Course Title

ATTC is an approved training organisation by SkillsFuture Singapore for WSQ courses.

Industry Need

Those who want a career switch to aviation industry and newly recruited personnel, who wish to seek recognition as trained technicians in the aviation industry.

Course Objective

On completion of this unit, learner will have the knowledge and application skills for this competency unit using appropriate tools, equipment, materials and methods.

Course Synopsis

The competency elements covered in this competency unit are:
1) Measure Voltage, Current Power, Frequency and Phase Sequence.
2) Check Serviceability of Basic Electrical Components
3) Check Serviceability of Wire and Cables

Primarily, people who require such competencies are technicians who perform aircraft maintenance (avionics).

In relation to the WSQ Modules, this is the specialisation/elective competency unit that is required for the said qualification.

Course Structure

There are three competency elements. They are:

1) Measure Voltage, Current Power, Frequency, and Phase Sequence:

  • Electrical Parameters
  • Electrical units of measure
  • Function of basic electrical measuring equipment
  • Procedure of measuring electrical parameters
  • Precautions in measuring electrical parameters
  • Processing work documentation

2) Check Serviceability of Basic Electrical Components:

  • Electrical properties of basic electrical components
  • Nominal values and tolerances of resistors and capacitors
  • Appropriate test equipment for checking serviceability of basic electrical components
  • Procedure of checking serviceability of basic electrical components
  • Precautions in checking serviceability of basic electrical components
  • Processing work documentation

3) Check Serviceability of Wire and Cables:

  • Basic types of solder and their composition
  • Different sizes of soldering irons, their features and use
  • Function of soldering flux
  • Features of acceptable soldered joint
  • Procedure of soldering
  • Procedure of de-soldering
  • Processing work documentation
  • Good physical conditions of wires and cables
  • Electrical properties of wires and cables
  • Appropriate test equipment for checking serviceability of wires and cables
  • Procedure of checking serviceability of wires and cables
  • Precautions in checking serviceability of wires and cables
  • Processing work documentation
